DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) was first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood during electrically-induced sleep in the 1970s by Monnier and Schoenenberger. The isolated nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) was found to induce slow-wave (delta) sleep.
